English: Maeterlinck was born in Ghent, Belgium to a wealthy, French-speaking family. His father, Polydore, was a notary who enjoyed tending the greenhouses on their property. His mother, Mathilde, came from a wealthy family.
Français : Maurice Polydore Marie Bernard Maeterlinck (/ma.tɛʁ.lɛ̃ːk/ en Belgique ; /mɛ.teʁ.lɛ̃ːk/ en France), né le 29 août 1862 à Gand (Belgique) et décédé le 5 mai 1949 à Nice (France), était un écrivain francophone belge. Il reçut le prix Prix Nobel de littérature en 1911.
