This page collects the photos of Podunavlje kurgans into one gallery ("Podunavlje" is toponymic phrase meaning "by the river Danube"). These kurgans are somehow tied to the Danube river basin and its historic fluvial/alluvial zone. By active meandering, until its recent regulation, the water system of Danube changed course over time, and developed net of living and dead meanders and river shoals. The kurgans of this period (of which we know very little) are situated as chain on the banks of the Danube meanders that were once there, and today are dry, hilly landscape.
