Promontories of Islay refer to coastal promontories. The coastlines usually alternate bays or inlets with promontories. The Scottish Gaelic word is rubha, pronounced approximately roo-wa. Most promontories on Islay retain their Gaelic designations, but a large proportion are English, typically transliterating some Gaelic name.
