Deutsch: Bildstöcke in Kärnten.
English: Wayside shrines in Carinthia are witness of the public religiousness. They are mainly found in German-speaking countries like Austria, Germany, Switzerland and South Tyrol, but also in Slovenia and other countries around the Alps. Wayside shrines, portrayals of the way of the cross, altars of procession and free figured monuments are evident in fields, forests, villages, near roads, rivers, etc. Often they were built in places where a fatal accident has happened.
