Not everything called slot, kasteel or château in Dutch is a castle. See en:Castle for the English definition of castle. Thank you. Vincent Steenberg (talk) 21:39, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not everyone searching for castles is english. Havang(nl) (talk) 09:11, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't you think that's a bit strange. I know that a language is a living thing, but it seems a little Don Quichotte-ish to dictate definitions of words as an individual. No offence, of course. But looking at it case to case:
Since there are innumerable mansions in Gelderland maybe it's better to start a Category:Mansions in Gelderland? Vincent Steenberg (talk) 10:15, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I followed the dutch categorie Kastelen and the dutch lijst van kastelen. I just started splitting castles in the Netherlands by making categories by provinces. Better work on that cat refinement first; I have no autority for distinguishing mansion-castle. However a soft redirect Category:Mansions in ... towards Category:Castles in ... could be useful. Havang(nl) (talk) 11:06, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ok, we'll see how that works. Vincent Steenberg (talk) 12:20, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I made a category description, fitting reasonably the english article Castle; and I madeCategory:Mansions in the Netherlands a redirect; this may become a subcategory of castles, But you are certainly right in remarking that some ambiguity is there: like the existing subcategories borg in Groningen and Stins in Friesland. There is also Havezate in Overijssel and Gelderland. I don't know how to handle those, I let it as it is. Havang(nl) (talk) 14:11, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think borgs, havezates, as well as spijkers, can be categorized as castles, because they are all fortified structures and often of medieval origin. I don't know about Stins, though. I will ask someone about that. Vincent Steenberg (talk) 18:24, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In the english article en:Castles one mentions also "Revival castles and the castle as a country house". Castles is a good upper category for al these, I think. Havang(nl) (talk) 19:33, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think they mean Castle De Haar or Image:Stapelen001.JPG and not, for example, Image:Jachthuis.Sint-Hubertus.jpg. But I'll wait untill you finish your project and then we'll see what to do about this issue. Vincent Steenberg (talk) 20:20, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
