Strange edit

@79.214er: you have made a strange edit for which your explanation does not seem to match, so please explain. You state that the German Democratic Republic is a former independent country until 1989 and that therefore this category should be under its current country of Germany. This is correct (though actually it existed from 7 October 1949 until its dissolution on 3 October 1990, but that's a minor point) and as you can see, as it was before your edit, it already was a child of Category:Geodesy in Germany, so it seems it was compliant with that statement already and did not require a change. Further, I do not understand why you removed it from various categories such as Category:Geodesy by country of location, Category:German Democratic Republic by topic, Category:Earth sciences in the German Democratic Republic, and also removed the navigation box for geodesy by country, as none of these are relevant to your comment. I just saw your comment on my talk page and I think I understand a bit more of your reasoning. However, as I indicated there, whether a country if current or former is not a factor in treating it as a country. The DDR was a country, and we have content about it during the period it was a country. Should we have a sufficient number of countries of different statuses with geodesy content, an index for current or former countries can be created for those who find value in seeing a list of exclusively former or current countries. I am not sure myself what real value this holds, but if you feel strongly, feel free. However, the base 'by country' index should still contain all countries, regardless of status, so users are not required to know a country's status in order to find them the in the category structure. Ich bin davon ausgegangen, das der Index {topic in country|geodesy|.......} nur für aktuell existierende Länder gilt. Wenn es allgemeiner Kontext ist, das alle existierenden und ehemaligen Länder hier hineingehören, dann habe ich nichts dagegen. Verstehen tue ich es aber trotzdem nicht. Allerdings sollte die Kategorienzuordnung [Category:Geodesy in Germany] und [Category:Geography of the German Democratic Republic] weiterhin bestehen bleiben.-79.214er (talk) 19:07, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Okay, I have retained the parent Category:Geography of the German Democratic Republic, although that is not standard, as Category:Geodesy is not categorized under Category:Geography -- in fact they are parallel under Category:Earth sciences. Josh (talk) 00:33, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
