In the English wikipedia Murugan redirects to Kartikeya, here in the commons Kartikeya redirects to Murugan. One of these should be changed (corrected?).--Ksl1989 (talk) 16:08, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Oppose Murugan is the common name for this Tamil deity. Britannica has it titled as Murugan and not Kartikeya, Kartikeya does not even find a mention in the same Britannica article, that mentions Skanda as the alternate name of Murugan, I belive Britannica has got it right and Wikimedia should do the same. Searching for Murugan on Google gave Seven times more results than the number of results for Kartikeya . In literature also Murugan is more common than Kartikeya. Temples of this deity around the world (Malaysia, USA etc) are known as Murugan temple. Following COMMONNAME policy this should be renamed to Murugan This deity is popular among people who call him Murugan. Those who call him Kartikeya rarely worship him. A comparison of actual usage of the two names in books between 1980 and 2019 shows that usage of 'Murugan' has been increasing steadily since 2010, but Murugan is still used over 6 times as much as 'Kartikeya'.Venkat TL (talk) 06:57, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
No consensus to rename the to Kartikeya. Venkat TL shows a strong argument for the current name. Kartikeya can still be mentioned as an alternative name used in North India. --Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 18:49, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
