I am an administrator at the English Wikipedia for some time now. I was mainly active at the English Wikipedia in the political (elections) field., Now I'm working most at creating an atlas. It developed further and it would be easy to have sysop-facilities in order to maintain the atlas and to be helpful at maintaining commons. I was originally a Wikipedia administrator under my own name Wilfried Derksen, but for privacy reasons I requested a move of the adminship to my username Electionworld. Dutch is my native language, furthermore I speak English and German and some French. I can read cyrillic alphabet.Electionworld 08:48, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment When you say "it would be easy to have sysop-facilities in order to maintain the atlas", several alarm bells start ringing for me. "Sysop tools" are for deleting and blocking. Maintaining is something any user can do. Sysyop tools are for cleaning up messes, not for organizing: using sysop tools for the purpose of organizing would be an abuse of the tools. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 22:16, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- In the creation of the templates, temporary files have been created (e.g. Categories), which should be deleted when they are not longer used. I am not intending to use the sysop facilities to block users i don't like, that would be abuse. Electionworld 07:34, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- OK... I was thinking more of deleting images rather than blocking users. Killing off deprecated temporary categories is a good thing (especially as I assume it's your own mess you want to clean up). ;-) --SB_Johnny|talk|books 18:17, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Support -- he/she has things to do, and the tools would be helpful in doing them (and in trustworthy hands). --SB_Johnny|talk|books 19:38, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment might be a bit early yet. Willing to give benefit of doubt though, and won't oppose ++Lar: t/c 22:40, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Support seems to have a good knowledge of commons and would make use of the tools. --Astrokey44 11:15, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Support Electionworld has proven to be a trustworthy and worthwhile contributor as well as one who works hard to ensure that the work gets done. There is nothing wrong with his request for admin status, and I would appreciate having someone such as Electionworld as a Commons sysop. Rarelibra 15:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question
Personally I don't see any problem with a user needing admin tools only for one small area. However, most users have (and should have) some expectations from administrators, such as them knowing the basics of copyrights, about what material Commons accepts, when images can be speedy deleted, where to ask for further assistance, the deletion process, and so on.
You need to convince me that you are familiar with some of these fundamental aspects....

- I think I know the basic of copyrights and the other criteria. I have uploaded a lot of images I didn't make myself. I am searching the wikipedia community for PD and GFDL maps and upload these to commons. As far as I know originally I uploaded one map which didn't fit into the criteria. That didn't happen afterwards. Electionworld 07:46, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
