I have been told that English name required in scope. Prey should be specified in scope too. Charles (talk) 21:22, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Question Prey scoped. But else I am not sure if I understand you correctly: there is an internationally standardized latin name for this species, Melanerpes aurifrons, which is used here as scope, but you want me to change this name to a non-standardized and regionally used only? Maybe you could be so kind to direct me to the place where this requirement is documented?Denis Barthel (talk) 08:03, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Question I couldn't find it in the rules either, Denis Barthel, but Archaeodontosaurus is very professional and thorough in reviewing candidates so I went along with his requests. I've also had VI candidates rejected for being not being sharp enough and these images are very out of focus so it will depend how they interpret the rules. Charles (talk) 07:41, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have now read them and have found where it says you must have "The binomial name should be in italics followed by the english vernacular name in parenthesis". But while reading the rules I noted rules that apply to scope for buildings:
A location of more than local interest
Buildings, like other places, should be of more than local interest to justify a scope
Not any church is worth a Valued Image scope.
Additional scopes can exceptionally be proposed if some part of the building is particularly worth of interest (for instance a remarkable crypt or sanctuary)
It seems to me that many of the building images that you are approving do not comply with these rules.
Why? Thanks. Charles (talk) 15:09, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As this comment is directed to your knowledge and interpretation of the rules when it comes to your work, Archaeodontosaurus, I allow myself to ping you. Regards, Denis Barthel (talk) 21:27, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment &  I withdraw my nomination Thank you, Archaeodontosaurus. I would recommend next time you request other users to change their vote, to do this here in public (where it can be discussed) and to quote correctly, as the linked rule:"one scope per species, in the form: scientific name (vernacular name if applicable)[, subscope]," is definitely not identical to your request and quote "The binomial name should be in italics followed by the english vernacular name in parenthesis". I added the spanish vernacular name as it is a bird distributed in spanish-language countries mostly and withdraw my proposal. Denis Barthel (talk) 08:28, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment The common name must be in English. It is the official language COMMONS. The most appropriate scope is : ''[[:Category:Melanerpes aurifrons|Melanerpes aurifrons]]'', ( Golden-fronted woodpecker) hunting unusual prey. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 08:45, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Comment The common name must be in English. - Archaeodontosaurus, I am very sorry, but this is neither a rule nor an interpretation, but plain wrong. According to COM:LP the official language of the Commons only reaches out to structures, categories, policies and the like:Category names should generally be in English, excepting some of proper names, biological taxa and terms which don't have an exact English equivalent. [...] Policies and guidelines should be written in English and translated to other languages. The English version of the policy or guideline is the authoritative version on which other language versions should be based.. But it does not reach out to content: Descriptions at galleries, categories and file description pages can be in any language and should be added in multiple languages. [...] Gallery names should generally be in the local language.. Please understand that your quotation was wrong and your understanding of the rules is too. It would be helpful if you would not request other users to behave along to it, especially non-public. Denis Barthel (talk) 09:24, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment If you wish to withdraw your nomination must be placed in the status line. I'm sorry I did not tell you was helpful. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 12:30, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
