Summary[edit]

Description

Pontiac wanted a performance package for its Tempest using the larger 325hp 389 cu in V8, so the GTO option was introduced in 1964, it was available on the 2 door coupe, hardtop coupe and convertible. It also got dual exhaust, chrome valve covers and air cleaner, floorshift with Hurst shifter, stiffer springs and a hood scoop. 348hp Tri Power was an option

The GTO was restyled in 1965, slightly longer and featuring Pontiacs characteristic stacked quad headlights. Horsepower was also increased.
