Summary[edit]
Description'Archaic heads' in the courtyard at Shibden Hall - geograph.org.uk - 1747085.jpg |
English: 'Archaic heads' in the courtyard at Shibden Hall Naive sculptures or carvings of the human head are found in a number of places in and around the Calder Valley, West Yorkshire. It is believed that these heads provided protection from misfortune or magical interference, and are often found on house walls near windows or doorways. Many are believed to date from the 17th century. This stone, which now forms part of a flower bed, looks like it may have been a door lintel.
