| Description |
English: 'X' marks another spot Mystery cross on the road near to the canal bridge on Ball Lane in Coven. I found another of these markings 259785 in an adjacent square.I am told that these mystery crosses are survey control stations (studs or nails, etc) that have been precisely co-ordinated in terms of the OS National Grid. They are highlighted with a white cross so that they can be precisely identified on vertical aerial photographs to be used for mapping purposes, usually at 1:500 scale in connection with a proposed road project. This is called photogrammetric mapping. |
