Description

Warm enough for everyone?

Last night the trap went out again on the patio, the day had been hot and humid with a high temperature of 26 degrees, we were promised a low of just 16c all night. The sky did clear by the morning, but at dusk there was plenty of cloud cover. We even had a bit of rain in the night as the outside egg trays were slightly damp and there were ‘puddles’ on the rain-shield. There were more moths than ever and it was nigh on impossible to count every single one, especially as lots were flying out of the trap as soon as the lid was taken off (I must buy a large tent so as to retain them easier) Every egg tray was covered, I stuck to my original plan of just jotting down the new ones, and the species I didn’t see on Monday night. Most moths that are multiple brooded are now onto their second broods with this continuous warmth and some early emergences of second broods, we may see third broods of some species.
