Summary[edit]

Description

Calm before the storm On Sunday night I ran the trap in the garden after another mild day. We did get some rain at some point in the night as the outside egg trays were damp but the temperature was a pretty respectable 15 degrees still at 5am. The wind was the main problem and this only got worse yesterday and into today halting trapping for a few nights.

Here's a strange one to start off with, the Micro Moth Cochylimorpha straminea is an abundant moth out in the field at the moment with hundreds to the traps but here in the garden...just 3 records over 5 years! And the 3rd record was on Sunday night and very welcome indeed.

Middle-barred Minor was also new for the year, one I missed out on last year and then two come along at once!

A few migrants made it to the trap as well, two examples of both Silver-Y and Plutella xylostella.

A great sight also was a Lesser Stag Beetle which I don't see many of in my garden.

The weather i'm keeping a close eye on and hope to get the trap out tomorrow.
