English: 160803-N-OI810-055 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Aug. 3, 2016) Seaman Yarlene Solis, from Springfield, Massachusetts, makes sure the length of a nylon cord meets the standards as she performs maintenance on an MK-1 auto-inflatable life preserver in the hangar bay of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Nylon cord is used to attach a whistle, a distress marker light and a sea dye marker. Sailors wear MK-1 auto-inflatable life preservers on the flight deck during flight operations to make them more visible and to protect them and aid in their rescue if they were to fall overboard. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
