| Description |
English: 1926 Rolls-Royce Springfield 45/50HP Silver Ghost Town Car 'Warwick' by Brewster (and for Brewster) on display at the 2021 Greenwich Concours d'Elegance. Registration DS 6498, chassis number S165ML, and engine number 20655. 7.4-liter sidevalve six and resolutely pre-war in design. 1926 was the last year for the Silver Ghost in Springfield, the model having been discontinued in the United Kingdom the year before. Rare in having left-hand drive, along with a centrally mounted three-speed transmission, vacuum brake booster, and the Phantom front axle, this car was built for William Brewster himself - Rolls-Royce Springfield's semi-factory coachbuilder.
The car was sold to a lady in Rye, NY in 1927 and thereafter mostly hung about the Northeastern United States, until sold to Glasgow in 1979. It remained in the United Kingdom until 2011, when it was sold at Goodwood and wended its way back to the Northeast. |
