Summary[edit]

Description

In England the Mk II Cortina was introduced in Oct 66 but not released in Australia until Aug 67, the Mk II was a squarer, boxier shape than the Mk I. The Australian built cars got chrome strips on the rear flanks (240 and 440) Engines were initially carried over from the Mk I but replaced in Jan 1968 with the 1600 with the cross flow head (only 4 months sold with the 1500 in Australia). Power went up from 83hp to 93hp A mild facelift in 1969 saw separate F O R D letters on bonnet and boot, a black grille and chrome above and below the tail lights. In England and NZ the models were; Base, Deluxe, Super, GT and in 1967, 1600E (NZ GTE). Australian models were 220 (1300), 240, 440, 240L, 440L, GT and GTL. From 1969, with similar specs to the English 1600E (and NZ GTE), Australia got the L option on the 240, 440 and GT. The chrome strip on the flanks was deleted on the L, but got chrome sill strips, side stripes, upgraded seats and a woodgrain dash

The Australian GT originally followed the subtle styling of the XT GT Falcon but when the XW GT came out in 1969, with bold stripes and blacked out bonnet, the Cortina GT followed suit. It also got matt black boot panel and under the doors, bumperettes with overriders, driving lights, bonnet lock pins, GT engine and suspension, full instumentation (4 dials above dash until 1968, then brought down into dash)
