| Description |
First Fully Australian Designed Falcon, the XA got an entirely new rounded body, Also the Hardtop was reintroduced to compete with the Monaro and Charger. The Hardtop was available in 500, Fairmont, (both available with the GS option), 351 GT and the Limited Edition 302 Superbird The Limited Edition 'Superbirds' (Option 77) were built from March -May 1973. This car is a replica of the concept car that was displayed at the 1973 Motor Show, featuring the bold bird decal stretching the full length of the car. This was bold enough, but Ford made sure it stood out on the showcar’s metallic silver paint by making it bright orange. The interior was trimmed in a similarly bright mix of red and pale grey upholstery. The rest of the specification was pretty much standard GT hardtop, Today, the fate of the original showcar remains a mystery. It created so much attention that Ford decided to produce a limited run of 700, Unfortunately, these were watered-down versions of the showcar; a much reduced size for the Superbird graphic, and the engine in the package wasn’t the GT’s 351 4V V8, but a milder 302 V8. They were available in 3 different colour combinations; Lime Glaze / Jewel Green, Polar White / Cosmic Blue and Yellow Fire / Walnut Glow |
