3-1 Présence japonaise

En septembre 40, les troupes japonaises entrent en Indochine par le Nord (150 soldats français sont tués lors des combats). Le 22 septembre, un accord est signé entre les français et les japonais: 6 000 soldats s’installent, 4 aéroports sont occupés. En 1941, elles occupent le centre et le sud de l’Indochine. Un « modus vivendi » s’établit entre japonais et français, ce qui évitera sûrement les massacres comme ceux perpétrés par les troupes japonaises dans le reste de l’Asie. Mais en mars 45, les japonais internent les français, civils comme militaires.

En décembre 41, il y avait 63 000 soldats japonais en Indochine (d’autres sources indiquent 75 000) et de nombreuses entreprises commerciales mixtes chargées de « piller » la colonie.
