Description
English: 38-43 Bayley Lane The panels on the right are corten steel panels marking the boundaries of buildings that existed in Bayley Lane from the 1300s up to their destruction in 1940 during WW2. Cut into each panel are the names of inhabitants from periods in each building's history. The panel in the foreground reads: "42-43 Bayley Lane / 1410 William Eloa / 1565 Edmund Brownill draper mayor sheriff MP / 1655 Henry Davenport clerk / 1731 First Provident Dispensary / 1756 Weavers Arms public house / 1869 Clarendon Arms / 1939 Whitman and Sons Ltd plumbers & decorators / 1940 destroyed by the Blitz". There is a further panel for 44-45 Bayley Lane behind the photographer's position. In the background at the corner of Bayley Lane is the east end of the ruins of St Michaels cathedral church and adjoining it the 20th century Coventry Cathedral.
