Description

Apollo 16 Hasselblad image from film magazine 122/QQ - Rendezvous, Lunar orbit.
This photo is used in Figure 4-54 of the Apollo 16 Preliminary Science Report (NASA SP-315), which has the following caption:

Post-TEI view of King Crater near latitude 5.5° N, longitude 120.5° E. King has an unusual central peak. The crater was the subject of visual observations and photography on more than one revolution during the Apollo 16 mission. Oblique views from orbit show specific features in and near the crater in greater detail. North is to the right in this near-vertical view.

This photo is also used in Figure 29-94 of the Report, which has the following caption:

View of King Crater that shows the structural setting of the central peak at low Sun elevation angle. The ropy appearance of the lower part of the Y-shaped feature is probably caused by fractures that trend northeast to southwest.
