From the Painting for the Cavalry Club by J. C. DOLLMAN, exhibited in the Royal Academy, 1914.
CAPTAIN LAWRENCE EDWARD GRACE OATES, one of the heroes of the Scott Antarctic Expedition, leaving the last camp on the morning of March 17, 1912, during the great blizzard. "I am just going outside," he said to his companions, "and I may be some time." In his journal Captain Scott wrote: "We knew that he was walking to his death, but though we tried to dissuade him, we knew it was the act of a brave man."Licensing
