From the Tower»a complete view is obtained ofthe whole position before Delhi,and of the encampment of theBritish Force below the Ridge, thepale dome of St James Churchmarking the site of the KashmirGate, and the square roof of a fac-tory that of the Mori Bastion. Thelarge house to the West from theFlagstaff Tower is the Circuit House,built for the Viceroy at the Corona-tion Durbar, and occupied by thePrince of Wales in 1905. A pleasantwalk may be taken through the oldCantonment, in which the lines of anative cavalry regiment and residencesfor the officers have been recentlybuilt, and which the Najafgarh Canalbounds on the further side. Near thisis the Rajptir Cemetery where Major-Gencral Sir H. Barnard and so manyof the brave men who fell before Delhilie buried.^ There is a memorial crossof grey Aberdeen granite. Half way to Badli-ki-Sarai, and removed some 2 m. tothe N. side of the road, is the Plainof Barwari, on which the ImperialAssemblage of ist January 1877 andthe Coronation Durbar of 1st January1903 were held, and presented scenesof splendour such as were never seenunder the greatest of the MughalEmperors.
