of the Magi. One ofthese, kneehng, kisses the foot of the infant Saviour, whose tiny handis imposed on his head in token of blessing. To the left are two Magi,one of them removing his mantle that he may more reverently appearin the sacred presence, whilst the other holds a cornucopia. Behindstand the suite and two camels. This subject was never painted with more feeling, more naturallyor beautifully composed than here. A supreme sense of religiousdecorum and repose prevails in the well-proportioned, dignified,and softly animated figures ; and it is impossible but that Angelico,in whom the utmost religious feeling of his time was represented,should have studied here, and with fruit. The Presentation inthe Temple is a very animated composition of five figures in abeautiful groined interior. The moment chosen is that in which Simeon has just taken theSaviour from the hands of the Virgin and looks up to heaven. Thefigure of the Saviour in the Crucifixion is of a noble type and form, with
