We desire to makjspecial mention of the above company,who are manufacturers of flat steelsprings, corset steels and wires, flatwire specialties, etc. They are alsothe Canadian agents for the Schottbutton machine and moulds. Thisbusiness was established 25 years ago.From the start this concern has met with very gratifying success. Theplant is thoroughly equipped withevery modern facility and machineryfor the successful prosecution of thebusiness and employment is given tofrom 50 to 60 hands. The trade ex-tends all over Canada. The businessis under the management of Mr. E. L.Atkinson. He is a representaeive citi-zen of Gananoque, enterprising andprogressive and highly regarded in so-cial and commercial circles.

The settlement of the Township ofLeeds is intimatvly connected withthat of Lausdowne being the centrefrom which the new settlers proceed-ed to carve out homes in the forest.One of the first settlers was OliverLandon, a United Empire Loyalist,from Litchfield. Connecticut. From anaccount book which has been preserv-ed, it is clear that Mr. Landon hadsettled in the Township as early as1787. Prominent among the early set-tlers was William Larue, better knownas Billa Larue. This pioneer locatedat the mouth of the creek falling intothe St. Lawrence, about 4 miles west H. C. MULVAUGH. This establishment under the abovetitle ranks as the leader in its line inLansdowne and is worthy of liberalmention in a work of this nature.
