Summary[edit]

Description
English: A sea of stones This is a 'felsenmeer', literally a 'sea of stones'. It may have originated in periglacial times (approximately 10000 years ago) as frost shattering broke up an outcrop of well-jointed and bedded sandstone. Air temperatures remained below freezing on the 21st century day that the photograph was taken, and the sun was just strong enough to melt the frost on the south facing facets of the blocks.
