arantic, badly-cared-forchildren, or, in general, when care is not taken to remove this accumu-lation frequently. In patients taking mercury a most violent stomatitismay occur as the result of a neglect of this detail. It is due, no doubt,to the fact that a small amount of certain metallic substances, likelead, mercury, and phosphorus, are excreted through the gums and aredeposited at their edges. This explains the so-called black line at thejunction of the gums and the teeth, in lead-poisoning, and also the exten-sive destruction of the alveolar processes in phosphorus-necrosis, causedby the inhalation of phosphorus-fumes. The teeth are: the temporary or milk teeth, which appear in infantsat the age of seven months, and begin to be replaced by the permanentteeth at the age of seven years. The order of eruption of these milk ordeciduous teeth should be borne in mind: The middle incisors, sixth to eighth month. Lateral, eighth to twelfth month. First molars, twelfth to sixteenth month.
