Thestripling they follow, dressed in captain-generals uniform, andtouching his cap to the crowd as it uncovers, is Alfonso XII.,King of Spain. When General Grant reached Vittoria there were all theauthorities out to see him, and he was informed that in themorning the King would meet him.
