Summary[edit]

Description
English: Abingdon: The County Hall This Grade I* listed building reflects the time when Abingdon was the most important town in Berkshire. However the Victorian railway boom passed Abingdon by and left it on a minor branch line, and in 1867 Abingdon ceded its county town status to Reading. Finally in 1974 during the major local government reorganization of that year Abingdon was placed in Oxfordshire. The building itself was designed by Christopher Kempster, a protégé of Sir Christopher Wren, and was built between 1677 and 1682. Today the building houses Abingdon Museum.
