The Secessionists were organizing. The Knights of the GoldenCircle, as they called themselves, were drilling in the streets of Louis-ville. The members of the Working-mens Association in that cityknew that slavery was antagonistic to free labor. They succeeded inelecting J. M. Dolph as mayor, who was loyal to the Union.
