Sedgwick and Newton with the deep-est interest watched the attack from the gardenof a brick residence situated on the outskirtsof the town and to the left of the Telegraphroad, which commanded a full view of theassault. The movements of the enemy showedthat they were actively preparing to receivethe attack, but the men behind the stonewall were concealed from view.
