A COMANCHE. wander more than any other tribe. Mr. Joneshas known Comanches to go to Cahfomia,and as far south as Central America, on tripsextending over years. They are a jolly, round-faced people, who speak Spanish, and oftenhave Mexican blood in their veins—the resultof stolen Mexican women, who have been in-grafted into the tribe. The Comanches are less superstitious thanIndians are generally. They apply an amountof good sense to their handling of horses whichI have never seen among Indians elsewhere.They breed intelligently, and produce some ofthe most beautiful painted ponies imagina-ble. They take very good care of them, andin buying and selling have no lessons to learnfrom Yankee horse-traders. They still live inlodges, but will occupy a good house if theycan obtain one.
