Summary
[edit]DescriptionAccident at Connolly - 1971 - (4) - geograph.org.uk - 3245211.jpg |
English: Accident at Connolly - 1971 - (4) The accident site viewed from a long-demolished footbridge which connected the GNR(I) station with the City of Dublin Junction Railway platforms. This was the Connolly station layout in the years before DART electric services began in 1984 – Platform 1 and carriage sidings were on the right while I am standing above Platform 2. Next on the left were carriage sidings and the access to Platform 3, while Platform 4 (the “Howth Bay”) can be seen on the far left. The lines to the left of Connolly cabin gave access to North Strand Junction and the former Great Southern & Western Railway line from Islandbridge Junction to North Wall – these lines still exist and are used for Sligo services. A B141 class diesel locomotive stands at the far left at the top of a steep rail connection from Newcomen Junction, on the former Midland Great Western Railway lines from Liffey Junction to North Wall. |
