Description
English: U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Matthew Spittler and Senior Airman Tyler Trocano observe a CH-47 Chinook arriving to extract members of 2nd Platoon, C Troop, 1st Battalion, 126th Cavalry Regiment, at the conclusion of their combined arms live fire exercise at Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center, Aug. 11, 2014. While an Army unit has joint fires observers (JFOs), who can identify and provide coordinates of hostile targets, “a JTAC understands more about airspace and what flies in it and what capabilities every aircraft has,” said Air Force Maj. Scott Grotbo, the tactical air control party specialist. In comparison to JFOs, JTACs are authorized to command aircraft from the ground. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
