These often over-load and rot badly from contact with eachother in wet seasons unless sprayed afterevery rain with Bordeaux mixture. Fig.10 shows a five year old sweet cherry treein our experimental plot. Nearly all varieties of cherries blos-somed profusely and promised a wonder-ful crop, but a frost just after setting soweakened the vitality of the fruit thatmuch of it dropped, leaving the fruitquite thin on many varieties. Fearing the appearance of cherryaphis, I applied whale oil soap in a finespray, using about one pound to five gal-lons after the foliage appeared, but thiswas probably too weak, for about the 1st ofJune the younger leaves were very badlycurled with aphis. I then tried spray-ng with Gilletts concentrated lye, usinga small ten cent package, about half apound, to five gallons of water, an application which has cleared my roses of both aphis and
