So vigorous in action are the figures, so con-centrated in effort, that the eye involuntarily rests firstupon them, diverted somewhat unduly from the faceabove. As the bust dates most likely from the sameperiod as the early paintings of Antonio, it may beconsidered here. It is probably a portrait of one of theMedici, whose type of face and arrogant bearing itresembles closely. It is evidently modelled with theintention of casting in bronze, and the clay has beenpainted in imitation, either by Antonio himself or sub-sequently. This paint has cracked in places and peeledoff to the great damage of the delicate modelling.
