BRIDGE HAS GOODARCHITECTURE The Golden Gate Bridge is unique inthat its architectural treatment was as-signed a position of primary importance—nor was beauty sacrificed to arbitrary de-sign standards and rigid economy. The structural conception as a whole isadjusted to its scenic environment and iscarried out in full symmetry longitudinallyand transversely. The bridge is perhaps the first in whichthe importance of the new motif of stepped-ofF towers has been recognized and applied. The bridge is also the first in which thenetwork of transverse bracing between thetower posts is eliminated and the towersportal - braced throughout, making thetower effect that of a majestic doorway.
