.ERE is an attrac-tive, low-cost, fireproof, five-room homedesigned in the modern manner. Althoughlow in first cost, it embodies all the comfortand conveniences of the more pretentiousresidence. Note sizes of rooms; numberand size of closets. Masonry Walls Specified As is customary in the low-cost, fire-proof home, walls are designed for con-crete masonry; to be finished with Port-land cement stucco or Portland cementpaint on the exterior. First floor and roof are to be reinforcedconcrete—construction that represents animportant economy. It carries out the flat-roof effect; makes the house rigid; enclosesthe most space for the least money. Affords Long-Time Economy A concrete platform is specified at theentranceway. Concrete construction alsois specified for other parts of the house—the footings, the foundation walls, the sillsand lintels for windows and door openings,and for the chimney.
