R.Secretary, Rancho Twenty-five miles north of San Diego and fivemiles inland from the Pacific is Rancho Santa Fe,an interesting example of architectural controlapplied in successful community planning. The principles by which this Southern Californiacommunity has been guided originated sometwenty-six years ago in the office of the late W. E.Hodges, then vice-president of the Santa Fe Rail- NELSONSanta Fe Association road. Through a subsidiary company, the rail-road owned a 9,000 acre Spanish land grant, nowthe site of Rancho Santa Fe, and, through anothersubsidiary, a nearby storage reservoir and watersystem.
