At the close of FY11 the Nuclear Footprint Reduction and Deactivation Plan Team successfully completed the three year initiative. Completion of the Nuclear Footprint Reduction and Deactivation Plan resulted in significant risk reduction, enhanced compliance, and in FY12 is beginning to yield operational cost savings at Argonne. The team represented a diverse group of Federal and contractor employees who persistently and innovatively worked together across several organizations and Department of Energy programs to achieve a highly favorable result. Highlights of completed commitments include the following: •Argonne prepared compliant documented safety analyses for seven nuclear facilities and the DSAs were approved and implemented; •Four nuclear facilities were de-inventoried to less than Hazard Category 3 (radiological) status; •Building 306 was downgraded from Hazard Category 2 to Hazard Category 3; •Dramatic reduction in nuclear inventory was achieved including completion of nearly 100 shipments of remote handled transuranic waste disposed off site;

•Argonne nuclear facility operating costs are on track to decline over 40% from FY11 to FY12.
