Summary
[edit]DescriptionArt Deco shop, Edward Street, Westbury - geograph.org.uk - 216873.jpg |
English: Art Deco shop, Edward Street, Westbury. Originally on this site were three small cottage type shops. One was owned by Mr. George Hann, a thriving and nationally renowed baker, who bought the other two in about 1935 to rebuild all three in the latest Art Deco style. In 1964 Mr. Hann retired and a Mr. Sensicle purchase the property for use as grocery store. But with competition from the new supermarkets the business closed after short time. In 1966 it was purchased by Mr. F. G. Collier who owned since 1896 the Georgian premise just seen on the left. Initially the shop was a heating showroom and coal merchants office, and then in about 1986, after internal alterations, to selling upmarket kitchens and bathrooms. Many thanks to Mr. Donovan Collier for the history. |
