anagement of Mr. Augustin Daly. It seems to me that, with my strength in the country, thiscombination would be as successful as the late Barrett and Bootharrangement—and more satisfactory—in New York proper.Whenever I play at your Theatre I am satisfied with a salary—or any arrangement you would make. But I cannotsink my identity, and I cannot give up the little I have accom-plished in the past years of incessant labor. My name mustbe upon my banner as the actor;—the management, and allauthority and authorship, I will joyfully relinquish. I am exceedingly ambitious and I confess it. I desire toproduce great plays and to play them greatly, and with Godsaid I shall accomplish this. If I could have such a man asyou by my side it would be accomplished sooner. I have noTheatre, I have no workshop, I have little or no management.I should like to acquire the management and the workshopand I should like ad
