Summary[edit]
DescriptionBackbarrow bridge fall - geograph.org.uk - 1226750.jpg |
English: Backbarrow bridge fall This intimidating rapid is given grade 4 in most guides, but grade "F" in "Rivers of Cumbria" meaning that more bottle than technique is required. In fact, at this low water level, technique does count, with the aim being to hit the main tongue in the centre, heading left to bounce off the rock hidden under the whitewater, or, as Jim is doing here, to avoid the rock on its right, boofing through the spray to avoid being backlooped in the hole. Anywhere in between those two courses tends to result in a capsize, but the pool below leaves plenty of time to roll up and will flush boats and swimmers through. |
