Description
English: Balmbras This public house was formerly the Wheatsheaf and in 1862, the landlord was called Blambra. The pub was made famous by the singer/ songwriter, Geordie Ridley. The was the pub where the crowd attending the famous Blaydon Races left from to go to the races that fateful day. The song starts, " We went to Blaydon Races, was on the 9th of June, 1862 on a Sunday afternoon, we took the bus from Balmbras and she was heavy laden, away we went along Collingwood Street, that on the road to Blaydon"
