Text Appearing Before Image:
amed from thestory that the daughters of Louis XVwalked this road when they went fromChateau de la Boivre to visit the Countesseof Narbonnc. This road is a natural strong-hold and was the scene of great militaryoperations during the war. Here ourtroops from New England, with the French, were attacked viciously. All the villagesin this vicinity were reduced to ruins. From 1914 to 1918 the Germans werecontinually hammering at the towns alongthe Chemin des Dames. The roads of France are wonderful. Many of them, particularly in SouthernFrance, seem to be of solid stone. A greatnumber are the same roads used centuriesago by the old Romans. Rheims and Its Cathedral Rheims is a cjuaint town. The greatestthmg of interest, of course, is the famouscathedral with its rose window, which waspartially destroyed by the war, and theequestrian statue of Jeanne dArc whichstands before it. It was noon before we arrived in Rheims. Our first duty was to eat. After that wewere to make a visit to the cathedral
