| Description |
English: Barnet Hill A 34 bus, bound for Walthamstow, drifts down the hill past the stop for High Barnet Station. In the past, the road was maintained by the Whetstone Turnpike Trust and was originally much steeper and on a slightly different alignment. In 1823 the trust was instructed to lessen the gradient by the commissioners for the Holyhead Road - speed of troop movements to Ireland being their concern. The road was realigned and built on an embankment using soil dug from the surrounding fields resulting in its current appearance. It is still a hard climb on a bicycle.
