English: Basin above Turf Lock Another view of the canal basin shown in https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/SX9686?centi=SX963861 , taken from the upper lock gate. The canal was extended to Turf Lock in 1827, having previously terminated two miles upstream at Topsham. duly completed in 1832. "Turf Lock measured 131 feet by 30 feet, allowing sailing vessels of 14 foot draught and 400 tons to enter Turf Basin where they often lay awaiting fair winds to exit the estuary having offloaded into lighters for trans
