Observation of hisuse of the voice mirror telephone dis-closed that he spoke very softly andnot directly into the telephone. Whenthese faults were called to his atten-tion, the results were greatly im-proved, much to his delight. A humorous incident occurred whichconcerns a foreign gentleman and hisfamily. He said into the voice mir-ror, I live at (—) 25th Avenue.When it was repeated back to him,he became very indignant, exclaim-ing, I didnt say 55th Avenue. Many Tested Their Hearing Ihe hearing tests showed a steadyincrease in popularity from the open-ing of the Exposition. By April 20,some 70,000 visitors had participatedin the hearing test demonstrations, oran average of about 1,100 per day.By the end of the Fair about 383,000people, or an average of 1,500 perday, had taken the tests. Initially,visitors displayed no preference for aparticular test. The demand for thetone test, however, increased frommonth to month. After August 1stwe completed more tone than wordtests. From the start of the Exhibit untilabout October 1, we photographed allresults of the hearing tests by run-ning the cards, which had been filledout by visitors, through a recordakmachine. The films were then sent to the Bell Telephone Laboratories forstudy. Visitors cooperated whole-heartedly
