lumes of bird and general-nature books. The pupilsare all furnished with Audubon Mockingbird buttons and the Leaflets issued bythe National Association. Thousands of pages of literature have also been mailedto other teachers in schools of all grades. The Secretary has given a number ofpublic lectures before representative gatherings in the state. A force of exactly 324 Bird - Lore loo wardens ha? been employed, on fees or salary, to enforce the bird and Ciameprotective laws. These officers have distributed literature, posted warning-notices, and bv their activity have prevented much illegal killing of wild birdsand animals. Especial attention has been given to the enforcement of the lawsjiroviding close seasons for the killing of Quail, Wild Turkeys and Robins.The breeding colonies of sea birds have also been carefully guarded. Manyarrests have been made for violations of the game laws, and in 163 cases the de-fendants were convicted. The Society does not receive any revenue from this

Our legislature met the past winter, at which time, by a concerted effort onthe part of those w ho disajjprove of the work of the Audubon Society, an effortwas made to destroy its usefulness. In this, however, they were only partlysuccessful, while, on the other hand, the Society and its friends were able tosecure the passage of a number of local laws providing for much-needed restric-tions on hunting.
