Summary
[edit]DescriptionBitchdaughter Tower - geograph.org.uk - 677440.jpg |
English: Bitchdaughter Tower This tower was once much larger, 2 or 3 storeys, and used as a Royal prison. But the upper rooms were dismantled and the stone from the tower was used to repair Ouse Bridge in 1567. The lower room, with the barred door, has a fireplace, and was turned into a guardhouse during the siege of York in 1645. In the C19th it was reused as a stable. |
